Outdoor Life Young Guns

What Are The Best BB Guns For Your Youngster?
The best bb guns for kids – this question gains new life in certain families when a son or daughter reaches an appropriate birthday, or when Christmas approaches.
In families where shooting ranks high among their outdoor activities, the time comes to introduce that youngster to the fun and ownership responsibility of a first gun.
A low power spring air BB gun is an easy answer. These are simple to operate, easy to learn to shoot with and are generally quite inexpensive.
The pioneer in these little guns is the Daisy Corporation. They’ve been around a long long time, and millions of boys (and girls) used and enjoyed their daisy bb gun. Whether town kids or farm kids, they all gained valuable experience in the care and safe use of a gun, and in the process paved the way as they grew older for that first high power air gun or powder firearm.
A lot of tin cans got dented, and a lot of cardboard was perforated. On farms where sparrows and starlings can be such pests, the trusty BB gun was enough to reduce that population. The process taught youngsters stalking skills, which stood them in good stead when they later went after rabbits and squirrels and maybe deer as well.
For kids in big cities, a basement target range could be set up safely, and hours of shooting pleasure could be enjoyed in quiet privacy.
Kids grow up with fond memories, and today many BB guns are bought by grown men for reasons of nostalgia. They just want another trusty Daisy Red Ryder or Daisy Model 25, to get that simple thrill they enjoyed so much as kids.
Spring air BB guns are a nice choice. Safety is always important, and with these you don’t have to fear a serious injury if an accident occurs (but watch out for those eyes!). More than once as a kid, I accidently shot my finger or toe with my BB gun, and the worst I suffered was a ugly blood blister. Even so, a BB gun should be handled as if it were a true firearm. Instilling good habits at a young age is always a good thing.
In the end, when all is said and done, I don’t think you can beat a simple spring air gun for that eager young boy or girl. Good fun times with Dad or Grandpa, and valuable skills to boot.
