Agility Training tips please
We have a year old, three of Dalmatia that I rescued from a shelter in March. I was pretty out of control, but now a well-educated boy who walks very well, had great manners and not even asking! I'm looking for some other activities for him. He does not play ball – Not interested at all. But he loves to play on the computer of the park with the kids. Go through the tunnels, slides and bridges. Better yet, he learned all in one try! So I'm thinking about agility training can be a great thing for him I've never been involved with it though and do not know where to start. Does it have to be "professional" or something you can do at home. I've had dogs all my life, but this will be a new skill. If someone has done it before, I'd love some tips! Oh, yes, Raider is very muscular, active and healthy – so there would be no physical problems for him. Thanks! ADD: Sorry, should have mentioned that the training facility nearest I could find was 2 hours away!
First, the speed is very good for almost all dogs. Provides an outlet, focus, mental stimulation, to learn what drives your dog and how your dog learns, you become more of a team. It great! Secondly, can compete in a lot of different levels. I know that some people taking classes every week and that's all they do. Some religious practices at home. Some do agility, flyball, field work, herding, earthdog and rally-o (so that the only reach an agility trial every 3 months). And some people living from the sport – ranging to 30 trials a year, flying across the country (or drive if their dogs are too big to go in the cabin of the airplane). So there room for everyone. And agility is a sport very pleasant with a lot of people who help you. Third, if you can find classes or a club nearby, which would be better. Here's a suggestion: go to www.agilityevents.net and look at the trials in your area over the past year. If there is something about which means there's probably a club the trial sponsor. Many agility clubs and trainers are hard to find. I live in a hotbed of agility with several people in the U.S. team FCI all within 1 hour from where I live and would not know to search online or go to websites cleanrun or AKC. Most agility clubs and trainers are "logistically poor "and have no websites or yellow pages, he adds. So do not lose hope yet. Fourth, you can definitely create their own courses and equipment. But you want to get the first statement so you do not inadvertently do anything unsafe and not destroy the unity of his dog and motivation (most Beginners are guilty of this.) So definitely there is a golf instructor or someone who competes in the level of expertise that can give initial lessons. Buy a book intro agility good (Bauman, Leach and agility have written books Bonham good – choose one of this trio of authors). There are some great introductory DVD on the website CleanRun. Anything from Susan Garrett is good – she is simply phenomenal. What most beginners do not understand is that agility is not about obstacles. It is the teamwork. Fifth, repeat after me: "Vinyl is my friend." Use PVC pipe, some joints and a PVC Cutter, you can do a lot equipment you need. All of your jumps, the base of the tires, stands for the dog walk, weave poles, the basis of a seesaw. Oh, and be warned of this … sport is addictive. As I write this, I have a regulation size, in a tunnel of quality competition in the trunk of my car over 100 feet of fencing emergency (to get my own way in public areas). I have 12 posts and 12 PVC fabric weave poles mental. I have six jumps, fitted PVC 5 dives (set my dog to jump height). I have a wheel, a rocker, an A-frame (which I built), a board Buja, 2 children's play tunnel, a slide, a table pause. All this in my car, or my backyard or in my basement. Yes, my wife thinks I'm crazy.
