Home for Cats?
Hello!
I’ve had to live with cats for my entire life (16 years), and I’m getting tired of dealing with the amount of cats that live at my house. Quite recently, one of the cats has had four kittens, and another stray cat that has adopted us is carrying around 6-10 more. Already we have 11 cats, and it’s getting overwhelming. I have discussed getting rid of most of the cats and finding homes for them, but no one seems interested in adopting. I can’t find any “No-kill” shelters either(now I know they have good reason to be so secretive), and I’m not sure what to do.
Would it be better to:
a) Post an ad in the newspaper for our cats; charging a small fee, of course.
or
b) Keep the cats, and wait until the kittens have grown, then place an adoption ad for them.
Now, before I forget to add this, I do live on a “farm”. It’s not technically a farmhouse, but I live in the country, and the cats are both indoor/outdoor animals. I hope this helps anyone who can help me!
Thank you.
You need to begin neutering the adult cats and consider early neutering for kits. This can be costly, but most vets will work with you and will often offer a discounted rate along with a payment plan. A vet might also be able to help you locate a free (or almost free) group that sponsors neutering.
As for the kits soon to be born, you need to be careful about the homes that they go to. It’s easy to understand why you are overwhelmed and I do think you want to do what’s best for everyone. Again your vet might be able to help you place the kits or the spay/neuter group might have some solutions.
Good Luck!
